It consists of survival horror, third-person shooter and first-person shooter games, with players typically surviving in environments filled with zombies and other creatures. The franchise has expanded into a live-action film series, animated films, television series, comic books, novels, audio dramas, and other media and merchandise. Resident Evil is the highest-grossing horror franchise.

1. Resident Evil (Remake)

Resident Evil[a] is a survival horror video game developed by Capcom Production Studio 4 and published by Capcom. Released for the GameCube video game console in 2002, it is a remake of the 1996 PlayStation game Resident Evil, the first installment in the Resident Evil video game series. The story takes place in 1998 near the fictional Midwestern town of Raccoon City where a series of bizarre murders have taken place. The player takes on the role of either Chris Redfield or Jill ValentineS.T.A.R.S. agents sent in by the city to investigate the murders.

2. Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4[b] is a survival horror third-person shooter game developed by Capcom Production Studio 4[1] and published by Capcom. It was originally released for the GameCube on January 11, 2005. Players control U.S. government special agent Leon S. Kennedy, who is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. president's daughter Ashley Graham, who has been kidnapped by a cult. In rural Spain, Leon fights hordes of villagers infected by a mind-controlling parasite and reunites with the spy Ada Wong.

3. Resident Evil 2 (Remake)

Resident Evil 2[a] is a 2019 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. A remake of the 1998 game Resident Evil 2, it was released for PlayStation 4Windows, and Xbox One in January 2019 and for Amazon LunaPlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in June 2022. Players control rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield as they attempt to escape Raccoon City during a viral outbreak that transforms the citizens into zombies and other creatures.

4. Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village[a] is a 2021 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. It is the sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017). Players control Ethan Winters, who searches for his kidnapped daughter in a village filled with mutant creatures. Village maintains survival horror elements from previous Resident Evil games, with players scavenging environments for items and managing resources. However, it adds more action-oriented gameplay, with higher enemy counts and a greater emphasis on combat.

5. Resident Evil Zero

Resident Evil Zero (or Resident Evil 0)[a] is a survival horror game developed and published by Capcom for the GameCube in 2002. It is a prequel to Resident Evil (1996), covering the ordeals experienced in the Arklay Mountains by special police force unit, the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team. The story follows officer Rebecca Chambers and convict Billy Coen as they explore an abandoned training facility for employees of the pharmaceutical company Umbrella. The gameplay is similar to other Resident Evil games, but adds the ability to switch between characters to solve puzzles and use unique abilities.

6. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard[a] is a 2017 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. The player controls Ethan Winters as he searches for his long-missing wife in a derelict plantation occupied by an infected family, solving puzzles and fighting enemies. Resident Evil 7 diverges from the more action-oriented Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, returning to the franchise's survival horror roots, emphasizing exploration. It is the first main Resident Evil game to use a first-person view.

Resident Evil 2[b] is a 1998 survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation. The player controls Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, who must escape Raccoon City after its citizens are transformed into zombies by a biological weapon two months after the events of the original Resident Evil. The gameplay focuses on exploration, puzzles, and combat; the main difference from its predecessor are the branching paths, with each player character having unique storylines, partners and obstacles.

Resident Evil – Code: Veronica[a] is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom and originally released for the Dreamcast in 2000. It is the fourth main installment in the Resident Evil series and the first to debut on a separate platform from the PlayStation. The story takes place three months after the events of Resident Evil 2 (1998) and the concurrent destruction of Raccoon City as seen in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999). It follows Claire Redfield and her brother Chris Redfield in their efforts to survive a viral outbreak at a remote prison island in the Southern Ocean and a research facility in Antarctica. The game retains the traditional survival horror controls and gameplay of previous installments; however, unlike the pre-rendered backgrounds of previous games, Code: Veronica uses real-time 3D environments and dynamic camera movement.

Resident Evil 6[a] is a 2012 third-person shooter video game developed and published by Capcom. A major installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 6 was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October 2012, and for Windows in March 2013. Players control Leon S. KennedyChris RedfieldJake Muller and Ada Wong as they confront the force behind a worldwide bio-terrorist attack. The story is centred around their four interwoven campaigns, and every campaign features a unique style in both tone and gameplay.

Resident Evil 5[b] is a third-person shooter video game developed and published by Capcom. It is a major installment in the Resident Evil series, and was announced in 2005—the same year its predecessor Resident Evil 4 was released. Resident Evil 5 was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in March 2009 and for Microsoft Windows in September that year. The plot involves an investigation of a terrorist threat by Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance agents Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar in Kijuju, a fictional region of West Africa. Chris learns that he must confront his past in the form of an old enemy, Albert Wesker, and his former partner, Jill Valentine.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis[a] is a 1999 survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom originally for the PlayStation. It is the third game in the Resident Evil series and takes place almost concurrently with the events of Resident Evil 2. The player must control former elite agent Jill Valentine as she escapes from a city that has been infected by a virus. The game uses the same engine as its predecessors and features 3D models over pre-rendered backgrounds with fixed camera angles. Choices through the game affect how the story unfolds and which ending is achieved.

Resident Evil Survivor[a] is a first-person light gun shooter video game developed by Tose and published by Capcom. It was released on the PlayStation in Japan on January 27, 2000, in Europe on March 31, 2000 and in North America on August 30, 2000. It is a spin-off of the Resident Evil video game series. It is also the first, first-person perspective Resident Evil game predating Resident Evil VII by seventeen years. A Microsoft Windows version was released only in China and Taiwan on September 7, 2002.

Initially released in 2003,[2] it was developed by Capcom Production Studio 1 and was the first entry in the Resident Evil video game series to feature cooperative gameplay and online multiplayer support,[3][4][5] although online support was not available for the PAL versions of the game.

Resident Evil: Dead Aim[a] is a light gun shooter video game developed by Cavia[1][2] and published by Capcom. It is the third Gun Survivor game in the Resident Evil series, and the fourth game in the Gun Survivor series. It is also the first in the franchise to feature first-person shooting and third-person movement seen in its predecessors in the Resident Evil series.

Resident Evil: Revelations[a] is a 2012 survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom originally for the Nintendo 3DS handheld game console. Set shortly after the events of Resident Evil 4, the game follows counter-terrorism agents Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as they try to uncover the truth behind a bioterrorist organization that plans to infect the Earth's oceans with a virus. The game features a single-player mode where the player must complete a series of episodes that involve solving puzzles and defeating enemies, and a multiplayer mode where players may fight their way through altered single-player scenarios.

20. Resident Evil 2 - Code: Veronica

Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica[a] is a light gun shooter video game developed and published by Capcom as part of the Resident Evil series. The arcade version was developed in conjunction with Namco for the arcade machines. The game was released for Sega NAOMI and PlayStation 2. It was released on the PlayStation 2 on November 8, 2001 in Japan[1] and in Europe on March 22, 2002.[2] The game is the second installment in the Gun Survivor series and the sequel to Resident Evil Survivor. The game is adapted from Resident Evil – Code: Veronica and features enemies and characters from that game, and enemies from Resident Evil 2 and 3.[3] It was followed by Dino Stalker which is a spin-off of Dino Crisis, and has no ties to Resident Evil.

Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2[a] is a survival horror video game and is a sequel to Resident Evil Outbreak. It was released for the PlayStation 2 in Japan on September 9, 2004, North America on April 26, 2005, and Europe on August 26, 2005.

22. Resident Evil Gaiden

Resident Evil Gaiden[a] is an action-adventure game for the Game Boy Color developed by Capcom and M4, and first released on December 14, 2001. Receiving generally mixed reviews by critics, the game marks a departure from other entries in the series, insofar as areas are explored with the playable character seen from a top-down perspective and with battles fought in first-person view. The story revolves around a viral outbreak on a passenger ship and has Leon S. Kennedy and Barry Burton return as protagonists. This game is non-canon, as its plot is contradicted by the main series in key parts, and its events are ignored.

23. Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles[a] is an on-rails light gun shooter video game for the Wii developed by Capcom and Cavia as part of the Resident Evil series.[1] The game was released for the Wii on November 17, 2009, in North America. It serves as a prequel to Resident Evil 4, set 2 years before its events.[2] It was released in Europe on November 27, 2009, bundled with the Wii Zapper accessory.[3]

24. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D[a] is a third-person shooter video game developed by Capcom for the Nintendo 3DS. It was released on June 2, 2011 in Japan, June 28, 2011 in North America, June 30, 2011 in Australia, and July 1, 2011 in Europe. The game was announced at the 2010 Nintendo conference in Japan. A combination of the "Mercenaries" minigames featured in Resident Evil 4 and 5, players must defeat as many enemies as possible within a set time limit.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City[a] is a squad-based third-person shooter video game for Microsoft WindowsPlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, co-developed by Slant Six Games and Capcom. It was released on March 20, 2012 in North America, March 22, 2012 in Australia, March 23, 2012 in Europe and April 26, 2012 in Japan.[1]

26. Resident Evil: Resistance

Resident Evil: Resistance[a] is a 2020 survival horror game developed by NeoBards Entertainment and published by Capcom as the online component for Resident Evil 3. Released for Microsoft WindowsPlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it involves four survivor players competing against a mastermind player who can create traps, enemies and other hazards. The game received mixed reviews from critics, who criticized the gameplay for being unbalanced, repetitive, boring and for lacking dedicated servers.

27. Umbrella Corp

Umbrella Corps[a] is a 2016 tactical shooter game developed and published by Capcom. Released for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4, it is a spin-off of the Resident Evil series and was released worldwide in June 2016. The game received negative reviews from critics.
